Bethany Sebin Hwang is a Korean artist based in Pittsburgh, PA, pursuing a BFA in Fine Arts with a minor in Philosophy at Carnegie Mellon University. Her practice is rooted in the philosophy of deconstruction and wabi-sabi, celebrating impermanence. She is drawn to exploring traces of absence. She constructs environments that balance the edge of memory and time through painting and ceramics. By doing so, she presents complex scenes that cannot be defined in a single frame. In both painting and sculpture, she allows imperfections and unspoken traces to reveal themselves and offers a dialogue between what once was and what it is now. Her work is a living reminder of what once was—a testament to the subtle allure of passing time, inviting viewers to wallow in its inherent beauty.
